A Conceptual Picture of Health in Uncertain Times

What is health but the blood that runs through my veins. Let’s take a closer look at what makes that blood from source to spring.

Isn’t my blood a product of the elements and the quality of the elements that surround me and interact with me? From the barrage of toxins in the water that I drink to the chemicals that contaminate our farms and soil’s. There is an invisible stream of contaminants here and there, from the plastic/PFA‘s,where the chemical induced food is contained and the bottled water or other liquids that we drink. If I am a product of these elements, if I am a byproduct of the consequence of industrialization. How can I anticipate that my body and mind or my communities would thrive amongst a society in which capitalism drives industrialization and industrialization is fueled by monetary gain and efficiency for the rapid production and consumption of goods. In which our economy is a mantra of natural resource depletion, to feed the insatiable hunger of the masses, who is in disconnect from this cycle of events. The internal mantra rings from sunrise to sunset, from moon waning to waxing, generational manipulation of planetary resource to product... "take, make, destroy, dispose"

This is the story of an earth in which my children cannot run barefoot because every blade of grass on every lawn is infused with pesticides and fertilizers to attain a desired aesthetic while discounting the laws of nature. The laws in which life thrives amongst biodiversity. Where each species accounts for some spectrum of good and purpose amongst another, and symbiotic relationships are the formation of a harmonious landscape. Creatures great and small have become the arch enemy of the human scape, being pushed away, detoured, and railroaded or roadkilled, so our apples and strawberries appear more round and red. Our lawns more green, though a lawn in of itself is a demonstration of human to land manipulation for singlular benefit.

Our bodies are inevitably in constant interaction with our environment. Though we go to great strides to erode ourselves as superior to our fellow species and undulating landforms, we so often fail. We are seeing this as mother nature destroys decades of infrastucture in a single sweep. When will we learn to work with not against the forces of nature, however microscopic or macroscopic. Our cells are daily injesting the network of pollutants that are the framework of our industrialized nation. Babies are born with and are growing into children with "nano-plastics" found in fetus's and breast milk of nursing mothers. Nano plastics are micro-plastics, of which other forms of plastics are contained and break down into. (I will dive deeper into this later on)

From the pores and open capillaries in our bodies, our mouths, our skin, (the largest organ in our body), we are injesting and absorbing byproducts of our environment.

I feel blessed to daily walk amongst pine trees and coniferous forests right outside my door, and to hear birds coming to life with the spring weather. But I also recognize that not everyone can walk out the door and be immersed in the healing powers of nature, that this is also a product of my class, my race, and where my parents were placed amongst the underlying sub classes of society, but isn’t it fair to say that every human should have equal access to clean water, clean food, clean air to breathe, and pure dirt for our children to run around about on. Unfortunately this is not the case. Many of the toxins, even in the seemingly clean environments pervade every cell of our being. In this writing, I attempt to take a deeper dive, a closer look, an inspection, at where the toxins in our environment reside and how are they are creating an epidemic of mental and physical illness amongst varied populations. Because I am solution oriented and was privileged to be exposed to the backbone of such information from a young age I would like to have a positive, solution based repertoire in which people can learn to decipher and make empowered choices. A cyclical economy, a conscious consumerism is possible where transparency is demanded amongst the products we use and the systems in which we interact with on a daily basis
